Mazlan Rasheed, LL.M (Buckingham), LL.B (Hons) (London)

Mr. Mazlan Rasheed graduated with a LL.B Honours degree from the University of London in 2000, he has been in full private law practice in the Maldives working on a range of important projects. Mazlan is one of the Senior Partners at the firm and is actively involved in our corporate, commercial and banking law practice. Mazlan specialises in commercial and international law and has been advising banks, financial institutions and private sector in a wide variety of legal issues.  Mazlan also advises on criminal law, particularly at appellate level. Mazlan maintains a busy litigations practice and represents clients at the Civil Court and High Court on commercial cases.

Mazlan also maintains a sharp academic interest, and is a part time lecturer at the Faculty of Shari'ah & Law of the Maldives College for Higher Education.  He is well respected by his colleagues and students for his incisive lectures in jurisprudence, evidence, contracts, criminal and law of tort.

Mazlan Rasheed is currently one of the Vice-President’s of The Law Society of Maldives which is the entity responsible for the representation of lawyers in the Maldives. Mr. Rasheed is also the President of the Society for the Promotion of Democracy in the Maldives, an NGO trying to spread awareness about democracy, good governance and rule of law in the Maldives.

Ahmed Murad, LL.M (Leiden), LL.B (Hons) (Middlesex)
(Senior Partner)

Murad is a co-founder of Mazlan & Murad Law Associates. He practices in aviation, tourism investments, banking and corporate law. He read law from Middlesex University, United Kingdom in the year 2000 and has an LL.M. (Adv) in Air and Space Law from Leiden University in the Netherlands.

Prior to establishing Mazlan & Murad Law Associates in year 2006, he spent six years as legal counsel at Maldives Civil Aviation Authority where he worked primarily in the in the field of international civil aviation law whilst at the same time advising private clients in the areas of banking, tourism and corporate law. His clients include public limited companies, large number of private limited companies, banks, insurance companies, airlines, airport operators, high-net-worth individuals and a large portfolio of clients in the tourism industry (including property owners and hotel management companies). He has advised many foreign companies to establish their presence in the Maldives.

Since 2006 when Mazlan & Murad Law Associates was established, he has advised on wide range of corporate and commercial transactions including domestic and international joint ventures, hotel and resort investment finance, banking transactions and aircraft leasing and financing matters.

He is also a co-founder of Mazlan & Murad Corporate Services LLP. He acts as Resident Director for various multinational corporations doing business in the Maldives in industries ranging from finance, tourism and trade.

In the year 2011, he co-founded an insurance advisory and brokerage firm, Atoll Insurance Consultants Pvt. Ltd. which specializes in advising private clients on general insurance and reinsurance.

In the past he has served as a Director in the Board of various State-Owned Enterprises in the Maldives including Maldives Airports Co. Ltd., Housing Development Corporation and Communications Authority of Maldives.

Ahmed Niyaz, LL.M (Leicester), PGDL, LPC (De Montfort), BSc (Hons)

Ahmed Niyaz obtained a BSc (Joint Honours) in Business and Legal Studies degree from the University of Wales, Newport in 2002 and then went onto complete the Post Graduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) and Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC) at De Montfort University, Law School.
He also holds a Masters degree in International Commercial Law (LLM) from the University of Leicester (2006). He specialises in Commercial Law and IP/IT Law.

He maintains a keen interest on academic research specialising in the Maldives tourism and history. Niyaz has published two books and journal papers on this subject. He has also reviewed and drafted various bills (legislative) for the Maldives authorities.

Niyaz worked at the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives, for two years where he gained in-depth knowledge of tourism industry. He has worked in the Insolvency department of British Gas Business for four years dealing with corporate debt write offs. He has also worked as a Document Automation Editor at Practical Law Company, London. He joined Mazlan & Murad Law Associates as an Associate in 2010.

Moosa Farish Ahmed, LL.M (City University, London) LL.B (Hons) (London) (Associate)

Moosa Farish Ahmed graduated with a LL.B Honours degree from the University of London in 2016 and later obtained LL.M in International Banking and Finance Law from City, University of London (2018). He went onto complete Civil and Commercial Mediator Training course at ADR-ODR International, UK and is currently a certified Civil and Commercial mediator.

Prior to joining Mazlan and Murad Law Associates, Farish was the Assistant Registrar of the High Court of the Maldives. He also worked as a Senior Officer Legal at Maldives Airports Company Limited advising the company on an array of construction, business and commercial litigation issues. Farish was involved in the negotiation of airport development projects with Saudi Binladin Group and Beijing Urban Construction Group and assisted Projects and Infrastructure department in other various airport development projects.

Farish also maintains a keen academic interest, and is a visiting lecturer at the Villa College teaching company law, land law and international criminal law.

Hawwa Reena Hassan, LL.M (Aberdeen) (BA.LLB) (CMR Law University) (Associate)

Hawwa Reena Hassan completed her Bachelor of Arts (Political Science and Sociology) and Bachelor of Law (BA.LLB) degrees from CMR Law University, Bangalore, India (2016) and obtained Masters in Law and Sustainable Development (2019) from University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Scotland.

After completing her bachelors’ degree in India, she worked in Ensis Fisheries Pvt Ltd and Island Aviation Services Limited before leaving to pursue her masters degree. She is a member of Amnesty International UK, Young International Arbitration Group London, and Young Singapore International Arbitration Centre. Her interests also extends to environmental causes for which she has collaborated with NGOs, schools and government agencies to create awareness on sustainability.

Her specialty lies in civil litigation, arbitration, corporate affairs, and governance and international trade and finance.
